Jill's Pregnancy: Week 33

Week 33: March 27, 2007

We are getting so excited! The babies are VERY ACTIVE and we can see them poke out and drag their little hands, feet, knees, elbows across my belly! This past week we went into the doctor's because I have been having so many Braxton-Hicks contractions. My blood pressure was high (140/90) and I had started to retain fluid (especially in my hands and feet), so they ordered some lab work to be done and reminded me to REALLY take it easy and be vigilant about being on bedrest. Turns out that my lab work came back normal, my blood pressure is down a little bit and my swelling has gotten quite a bit better.

Jamie is doing some outside projects (lawn work, washing/staining our patio furniture).

The temperature has been in the high 70's/low 80's, so I have been trying to sit outside for a little bit just to get some fresh air!!!

Jill's Pregnancy: Week 32

Week 32: March 19, 2007

We went in for our 7th doctor's appointment on Thurs, March 15th. We had another ultrasound and were able to see the babies again! They are getting so big! They are packed in so tightly in my belly that we were not able to see their faces. Our little girl was 3 lbs 14 ounces/heart rate 156, our little boy was 3 lbs 11 ounces/heart rate 144. I have gained around 27 pounds so far, and when the doctor measured the outside of my belly, I was measuring at 49 weeks (gestational age - which doesn't even exist), even though I was 32 weeks/8 months along!

Nursery Pictures

Here are some pictures of the nursery!!! Everything is coming together so nicely! My mom and dad spent a lot of time hanging curtains, hanging the diaper stacker, hanging shelves, laundering and making up the crib with the bedding, putting things away in the closet, etc. They were such a huge help!

Jill's parents help us to get ready

My parents had a trip planned to Indianapolis for the week of Feb 17 - 25th. With me being put on bedrest, it couldn't have been better timing!!! They were such a big help to have around the house (doing projects, putting things together, cooking, cleaning, shopping, making sure I stayed resting, etc)! Plus, their love and support was greatly appreciated during this time when I was a little bit scared and anxious! They are so excited to become first-time grandparents!!!

Indianapolis Baby Shower

On Feb 24th, our friends in Indy gave us a baby shower! Everyone was flexible enough to move the shower to our house since I am on bedrest (spent the day in the recliner). It was so great to see everyone, and we really appreciate their generousity!!! Our friends Ryan & Lindsay Backer and Molly & Ryan Brady hosted the shower for us! Thanks!

Jill's Pregnancy: Week 28

Week 28: Feb 17, 2007
We went in for our 6th doctor's appointment on Thurs, Feb 15th. We had another ultrasound and were able to see the babies again! It was so exciting! Our little girl was 2 lbs 5 ounces/heart rate 156, our little boy was 2 lbs 8 ounces/heart rate 139. The doctor said that the babies are growing VERY well, even a little big for a single pregnancy! I have gained 20 pounds so far, and when the doctor measured the outside of my belly, I was measuring at 38 weeks/almost full term (gestational age), even though I was only 28 weeks/7 months along!
Turn of events: Jamie and I were headed to Detroit for a baby shower his mom and sister were giving for us on Friday evening (Feb 16th) when I started experiencing contractions in the car. We called the doctor and she had us turn around, drive back to Indianapolis and check into the hospital. They monitored the babies heart rates and my contractions over night. I was given 4 shots of Terbutaline to stop the contractions and now have to take an oral pill every 4 hours around the clock to keep my pre-term labor symptoms under control. I have been placed on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy. It was a very scary experience because the babies are still so small... I have been doing my best to stay resting (either in bed, on the couch, or in the Lazy Boy recliner).

Jill's Pregnancy: Weeks 6 - 20

Jamie and I found out we were pregnant on Aug 31, 2006 (2 days before we left for our Australian vacation). Ever since then we have been looking forward to becoming parents! With most of our loved ones far away, we decided that this website would be a good idea so that you all could check in every once in a while to see how the "4" of us are doing!

We have been taking pictures every couple of weeks (wearing the same clothes, standing in the same spot) to monitor my "progress".

Week 6: Sept 19, 2006 - The "starting point"
At this point we have not yet told anyone that we are pregnant. It is fun to have a secret that only the two of us know!

We wanted to tell our parents in person. We were in Detroit the weekend of September 30th, and my mom and dad had a trip planned to Indianapolis the weekend of October 7th. We bought kangaroo stuffed animals with a baby Joey in the pouch and gave them to our parents as gifts saying that they "signified something". It didn't take them long to figure out that it meant I was pregnant! It was very fun to see their reactions!
During the first trimester, I had been experiencing morning sickness (or in my case - all day sickness). I found that if I made myself eat small amounts all throughout the day, it seemed to make me feel a little bit better. I really didn't notice being any more tired, just a little sick...
Week 7: Our first doctor's appointment on Sept 27 was the standard first appointment with blood work, education, weight/blood pressure, etc.
Week 10: We had our second doctor's appointment on Oct 16 and heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time! It was an incredible experience. The heart rate was 170. Jamie had never heard a baby's heartbeat before, so he was surprised at how fast it was! We grabbed each others hands and I started to cry a little bit. It is such a miracle!
Week 11: Oct 24, 2006
Week 14: We had our third doctor's appointment on Nov 13. Still feeling a little bit nauseous. The baby's heart rate was 165. I have gained 3 pounds so far, and when the doctor measures the outside of my belly, I am measuring at 13 weeks (gestational age).
4 months - Week 16: I have entered my second trimester and just like everyone told me - my sickness has gone away! Thankfully my appetite is back now that the holidays are approaching! Ha! We went to Crystal Falls for Thanksgiving and it was great to see my family and friends. I am already starting to show! I feel like in the past couple of days even my stomach just "popped out". I can still fit into a couple of my bigger size normal pants/jeans, but have started wearing a couple pair of maternity pants too.
Week 17: Dec 4, 2006
Week 18: I felt movement for the first time!!!! I had to travel to North Carolina for work training and was sitting in class on December 11th and felt movement. It felt like tapping on the inside of my lower stomach - I got up from training and called Jamie right away!
5 months - Week 20: Dec 21, 2006 - The day we found out we were expecting TWINS!
We went in for our fourth doctor's appointment on Dec 21st. This would be our first ultrasound! We had decided not to find out the sex of the baby and told the technician before she started that we did not want to know. As soon as she started the ultrasound, she said "oh...we have a surprise...there are 2 babies!". I started crying, Jamie was smiling and said he felt very lucky! Having an ultrasound is a very emotional experience - I don't know if I was crying out of happiness/love or crying because I was a little bit freaked out at the thought of twins! I think a little bit of both! Ha! We ended up finding out that we are having a boy and a girl (fraternal twins in seperate sacs)! The little girl was 12 ounces/heart rate 156, the little boy was 10 ounces/heart rate 139. We went in to see the doctor after the ultrasound. I have gained 8 pounds so far, and when the doctor measured the outside of my belly, I was measuring at 28 weeks (gestational age), even though I was only 20 weeks along!
It was so much fun to call everyone and tell them! We started off by saying we had our ultrasound this morning and BOTH babies are fine. Everyone was so surprised! We burned through about 400 cell phone minutes that day! After the initial shock has worn off, we feel very blessed to have not one, but two little blessings on the way!

Jill's Pregnancy: Weeks 21 - 26

We were able to spend time over the Christmas Holidays in both Detroit and Crystal Falls with family and friends. Jamie felt the babies moving on the outside of my belly for the first time on Dec 23 (watching the Florida/Ohio State basketball game).

Ever since Christmas, my belly has been growing and growing! The babies have been very active and moving around. I almost think that they wake each other up and get each other going! Jamie is often able to feel their very strong movements!

Week 23: Jan 14, 2007

We went for our fifth doctor's appointment on Jan 18, 2007. I have been experiencing a lot of back pain, so the doctor recommended a maternity support belt. It if funny looking, but sure seems to help with supporting my back and stomach! The babies heart rates were 171/162. I have gained 15 pounds so far, and when the doctor measured the outside of my belly, I was measuring at 33 weeks/8 months (gestational age), even though I was only 23 weeks/almost 6 months along!
6 Months - Week 24: Jan 24, 2007 - what a difference a little over a week makes!!!
Jamie and I went to a "Multiple Blessings" class at the hospital for parents of multiples. There were 3 couples expecting twins and 2 couples expecting triplets. We received some education specific to having a multiples pregnancy. We also got some information about a parents of multiples support group that we will probably look into. I guess it is really helpful to have other parents to talk to about raising twins.
Week 26: Feb 4, 2007
We have had so much love and support from our family and friends (and even people at work). We feel very lucky for our daughter and son on the way, but also for all of the special people in our lives that are reaching out to us! Jamie has been working hard to get the nursery/house ready (painting, laying laminate wood flooring, replacing carpet). My sister and friends Jen and Lisa came down in January to also help get the nursery organized, wash and organize baby clothes, shop a little bit. I had a good few weeks of energy in January, now I feel like I get tired pretty quickly and it is getting harder to get around. I have been swimming at the YMCA for some exercise - when I am in the water, I feel the same as I did before being pregnant.
